Hello World

Hello World!

Rising from the ashes of smiaras.com comes my new blog, which is all about Public Relations.

I’m treating my new blog as an educational tool for myself as I start from the bottom in PR and slowly work my way up.

I’ve got eight categories which I will now detail to give some insight into how my blog will shape out in the future.

Buzz: One of the key attributes of a PR professional is to spot future trends and use them to help position your client. Right now blogging is one of those trends which businesses are starting to pick up on in order to differentiate themselves from their competitiors.

E-PR: IT has transformed the way people communicate and also how PR practitioners operate. In this category I will discuss any new media the public use to communicate and new tools PR firms can use to become more effective.

General: The category name says it all really. Anything that doesn’t fall into any of the other boxes will go into this section.

Ideas: If I see something that I think is innovative that someone or an organisation could use to become more effective, then I’ll post it here rather than let the idea go to waste in my brain.

Personal: I promise not to use this much, but if there’s anything worth mentioning from my personal life I’ll throw it in here…so it’s safe to say this will be pretty empty :D
PR in Ireland: I’m a PR professional in Ireland, so it would be pretty stupid if I was blogging about PR and didn’t mention Ireland. So expect lots of rants about the PRII and anything that happens in the market.

Resources: As I’ve mentioned before, I see this blog as an educational tool for myself. So anything that’s handy for a PR professional working in Ireland will wing its way here.

Technology & PR: Advances in technology make everyone’s life easier. I laugh when I hear about how press releases used to be sent by fax and now they’re dispatched at the click of a button by email. If there’s anything else that I think will make life easier for myself, I’ll share it with the world here.
