The future of PR in Ireland is not as bright as it seems
Published May 22nd, 2005 in PR in IrelandTom Murphy mentioned how in a recent lecture he gave to PR students in Ireland that many of them were aware of blogging. While that sounds good in practice, in my experience a lot of PR students I have met aren’t as open to developments in technology as they should be.
With the exception of Perke.com, there is a complete lack of activity by students online. Somebody took the time to set up Perke, but it’s a complete disaster with little to no activity. Well at least, their forums have had a couple more threads than the PRII forums
The colleges aren’t exactly helping matters either. In my case, the Fitzwilliam Institute had a class on website design which was a bit pointless. Somehow people who had hardly used Word before were expected to learn all about HTML tags. Needless to say we would have been much better off doing our ECDLs. Or simply something of practical use; learning all about BCC
Tom Murphy gives a biannual lecture on E-PR, but that’s about it. So for all the hype on the blogosphere about blogs, RSS and whatever else, PR professionals in Ireland certainly won’t be driving any of those techniques any time soon in my opinion.
