The Examiner and other media outlets are reporting that the Sunday Tribune was losing €90,000 a week during 2003 and 2004. Tribune Newspapers plc chairman Gordon Colleary put the blame on increased competition and marketing ploys like CD giveaways.

After reading Peter Sharkman’s prediction (courtesy of Steve Rubel) that we’ll see the death of big paper due to blogs, podcasts, etc in 2007. Needless to say I don’t agree, but maybe we might see a publication like the Tribune may go down this route in order to reduce their costs and differentiate themselves from the competition.

Here’s one blogger with his fingers crossed, hoping that they manage to turn things around. Where else would I go for my fix of Ross O’Carroll Kelly?
