What a way to build up hype!
Published June 11th, 2005 in GeneralEver walk down the street and get a cramp? You were probably in need of an urgent power-up, but if there’s no Gatorade at hand then you might have to make down with the question block overhead…question what!?
That’s what I was thinking when I read about this Super Mario fanatic (courtesy of Joystiq) who wrote the article “How to make your own totally sweet Mario question blocks and put them up around your town.”
It’s very reminiscent of Slipstream PR who put up a load of pigs’ heads around Waterford in Ireland to promote a stage version of Lord of the Flies. Despite the regional paper’s assertion that the publicity trick backfired, the stunt got widespread coverage across the national media.
I think both instances show a tremendous knowledge of subject matter which has allowed both parties to connect with a wider audience because of their enthusiasm.
