Why, oh why, as an international reader, can I not subscribe to Wired magazine via their website? Sure enough they have a section on their site for international subscribers, but can you actually subscribe? No! Instead of getting a confirmation of my order, I get an error message.

When I contacted their customer service, I was informed that I could fax over my credit card details to set up a subscription. Eh thanks, but no thanks. <sarcasm>What great advice that was</sarcasm>. This coming from one of the most innovative and forward thinking publications around.

I thought I found a makeshift solution by subscribing through Amazon, but the US site won’t allow international customers to set up magazine subscriptions. Just to really rub salt in the wound, the Amazon UK doesn’t offer the same magazine service.

So it looks like I’ll have to manually pick up the magazine for the foreseeable future, until I actually bother faxing over my details.

Or ask some nice American brethren (YEEAAHHH KEV!) to get the US sub and post it over … it’ll still arrive before it’s hits the shelves in Easons.

Maybe you know some US bloggers now that you’re getting so many comments!

Just tried it myself, 1 year after the original post.

I got the same error message.

What’s equally annoying is that for International subscriptions, they’re charging $70 for 12 editions.
For US subscriptions, they charge $10, plus you get a free Wired Home magazine also.

I cannot believe that shipment of a magazine cost $5 per edition.

Looks like I gotta keep searching Easons too so.
