Irish media organisations’ stupid domain name policy
Published July 17th, 2005 in E-PRIt started when I went to the Today FM website…or what I thought was their site. I typed www.todayfm.ie into the address bar and got the ‘Failed to open page’ from Safari. I double checked my media guide and saw that it was meant to be todayfm.com.
Slightly shortsighted I thought and prepared a blog entry on it. Before posting I decided to check out a couple of other sites and found that most Irish media organisations only register one domain name. There’s rte.ie, but not rte.com. Newstalk 106 have the .ie domain registered, but someone else has registered the .com url.
I’m thinking about getting some cheap hits by registering these domains and linking them to my blog just to show how stupid their strategy is.

That’s called SPAM, and CYBERSQUATTING and isn’t exactly ethical or legal. I know your intentions are just to showcase poor Internet strategy, but I’m not sure the companies will agree!!!
It would be funny though
