Blogs, blogs and more blogs in the Irish media
Published July 18th, 2005 in PR in IrelandBlogging is starting to become something of a buzzword in the Irish media these days. There was a big feature on it in the Sunday Business Post, then two articles in two days in the Irish Times (Friday & Saturday) and a couple of articles in today’s Icon supplement in the Sunday Business Post.
The articles in the Icon supplement are well worth a read. There’s one on moblogging and another on how to set up your own weblog. On top of that they also discuss popular Internet trends like Flickr, Popbitch and Holy Moly. Ger Gilroy has a great article on useless things on the Net, now you know what he gets up to while presenting Off The Ball
Don’t get excited just yet though, Tom Raftery points out that there are only 9,000 Irish blogs which can mainly be attributed to the poor broadband take-up in the country.

Piaras,
tbh, I think the figure of 9,000 was wildly optimistic! A truer figure would likely be around the 2,500 mark (with roughly 500-600 of those being updated on a regular basis - esp. now that we are in the summer holiday period and many students are away!)
Yeah saw that in the comments, still think that your post makes a valid point.
Thanks!
if you haven’t already come across it, the irish blogs yahoo group might interest you: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/irishblogs
the buzz started probably about mid spring, there was some tv coverage (the big byte), increased newspaper coverage, and an increasing amount of radio coverage of the subject. it helps that media people are reading some of these sites/blogs, and that the irish blogging community was talking up the subject
