The perils of working in PR
Published July 18th, 2005 in GeneralThere’s been lots of posts on the Net about why you should pursue a career in PR. Well here’s a reason why you shouldn’t - everybody gets their grubby paws on your mobile number. You might as well scrawl it on the toilets in every pub in the land and tell people to call for a good time. I’ve googled some of my co-workers and noticed that a lot of their mobile numbers are online.
Everyday I get calls on my cellphone from all sorts of people. When I receive a call, a number that I’m unfamiliar with normally appears, so I’ve got to answer calls formally even though it might be a friend calling.
It really hit home on Friday night when I received a call in the middle of the night. It obviously wasn’t a client calling, but at the same time I couldn’t just shout obscenities down the line because I didn’t know the number. So in a dazed and confused state, I stupidly answered a prank call that turned out to be my flatmates.
So what’s the lesson for the day kiddies? Always switch off your phone at night.
