Oxegen - World’s worst sponsorship?

I found out the other day that Heineken sponsor Oxegen, Ireland’s largest music festival. Unless you actually go to the event and see that the only beer being sold happens to be Heineken, then there’s not much else in-your-face obvious sponsor activity.

Oh wait, there’s the en of Oxegen in Heineken script…eh, that’s a bit stupid. There’s the Heineken Cup, the Heineken Green Energy festival and then Oxegen.

I’m part of Heineken’s target audience and I wasn’t aware that they actually sponsor Oxegen. Now call me stupid, but what’s wrong with this picture?

yeah, I was originally under the impression that Guinness dropped their backing for it as a result of new advertising laws that were rumoured to be coming in that would cut off all alcohol adverts. A year later a friend pointed out the font similarities in the “en” of Oxegen and the Heineken label. Pretty cover advertising alright, although they have pushed it more this year by including Oxegen in their Heineken Green Energy Festival ads and billboards.

Apparently, well someone once told me, it was somebody at MCD’s twisted way of “getting back” at O2 who were apparently at once stage going to take over from Guinness. But that could be in the realm of fiction mixed with fact.

However as the amount of under 18s who attend there could have been image problems including a drinks brand in the Witnness, or Oxegen names.

get over it if you want to drink somehing else then bring it yourself!! I, personally go to Oxegen to enjoy the music and the vibe not to look for something to give out about. heineken sponsor the event……. so what stop looking for a problem where there isn’t one
