Get interactive with TV3…well for 60 cents a pop
Published July 27th, 2005 in GeneralFollowing on from Ed’s comment yesterday about TV3 lack of a news site despite being on air for almost seven years, here’s my pop at their interactive week. (Ed you must be a mind reader because this has been in storage since the weekend)
So TV3’s interactive week is finally rolling around, one of the initiatives they will be running is letting viewers choose the Sunday night movie. Well by choose, they mean pay 60 cents for the privilege of partaking in a poll. Not as interactive as one would think an organisation could be in this day and age.
Why don’t they put up an online poll? Well besides the fact that their website is pretty useless, that would mean fulfilling their objective of being interactive rather than trying to make money off their viewers.
You’d swear that because they’re making a big deal of their interactive week that there would be a choice of three good movies. Instead we have a choice between Red Dragon, Planet of the Apes and Pulp Fiction. Hmm…wonder which one will top the poll? What do they call a Whopper in France?

TV3 hit their interactive peak about 4 years ago. For a short time you could watch their evening news online. You could also access a full Teletext service with news and sports. Both have now disappeared. However the people that sell for 3text maintain the service has improved greatly with the lack of serious content!
They are possibly the only media organisation on these islands that has no e-mail address at the end of their news coverage.
What’s coming up next on TV3?
Nostalgia week (black and white films.)
Meditation week (Test card with tone.)
I really can’t understand 3text. Fair enough online initiatives might be a hard sell to some media organisations but teletext is a given for all television stations. The current version of 3 text is the third version I can remember now and I have to say it’s quite possibly the worst.
