Help I’m a celebrity, but who’s my agent!?
Published July 29th, 2005 in IdeasOne thing I’ve noticed since I’ve started working in PR is the difficulty in contacting some media personalities’ agents simply because there’s no quick way of finding out who represents them. You have to go through all the go betweens who all include their own handling charge in the personality’s fee. Believe it or not there are some people out there who make a living out of this because they know the right person to contact.
There really should be some sort of online resource where media personalities or agents can include their details in order for PR consultancies or members of the public to contact them about work. I’d say that most people could save themselves at least a grand and a lot of time and hassle if there was a centralised resource.
Some people may argue that similar resources exist in some shape or form, but a tailored service needs to be developed by country. While celebs like Caroline Morahan or Kathryn Thomas may hold some sway in Ireland, their names hold about as much weight as mine when you step off the shores of the Emerald Isle.
Should this concept be developed it would definitely be a free resource because I cringe everytime I see a British soap star opening a niteclub or restaurant and somebody’s making an easy 17.5% markup on it for a phonecall.
