Everything Bad Is Good For You review
Published August 17th, 2005 in BooksWhat we see depends mainly on what we look for - John Lubbock
Everything Bad Is Good For You by Steven Johnson is a definite read for those who are tired of their parents giving out to them for playing video games or watching TV, but everyone else who’s long past the stage of arguing about Eminem’s lyrics will find themselves flicking through pages in parts.
While it’s an enjoyable read I felt that the book could have been condensed. Johnson is at pains at times to make his point, stretching out examples as though he was trying to fill pages.
While some of his critics may argue that rising IQ levels are probably more to do with the rise in education standards, I would agree with the main premise of Jonhson’s book that pop culture is far more complicated than its critics perceive it to be.

Not read this, but his book on Emergence is a fantastic read. As usual with books like this it has had me adding more books to my Amazon Wishlist such as The Death and Life of Great American Cities by Jane Jacobs and The Wisdom of Crowds by James Surowiecki.
