Paul O’Kane’s view on the Irish tourism overhaul
Published August 17th, 2005 in E-PRGood advice is certain to be ignored, but that’s no reason not to give it - Agatha Christie
It looks like my rant last week about no mention of blogging, podcasting et al when the Irish government announced an overhaul of how the country is promoted was well justified. Paul O’Kane wrote a great piece in last week’s Business section of the Sunday tribune on how lacking Tourism Ireland’s Internet strategy is. For example, the top result when you google Ireland is the Failte Ireland website which is aimed at domestic tourism.
Although the article doesn’t say it, what Paul O’Kane should have pointed out is that they should really invest in some good Internet Marketing at least.
Social Media techniques can supplement this is two important ways. Most importantly, it can make visitors regular subscribers through RSS. Secondly, it can eventually replace the need for Internet Marketing by making key sites index higher in Google through more links. The variety of ways you could build upon this is virtually limitless.
