Have flight bargains flown to your RSS reader

Wisdom consists of the anticipation of consequences - Norman Cousins

Stephen Davies reveals that Just The Flight has become the UK’s first online travel agent to offer flights via RSS feeds. I’m waiting for Ryanair to follow suit. Make no mistake this will be a huge development in the online market.

RSS/Webfeeds is about making the Internet work for you. I have to book flights for journalists from time to time. There’s nothing worse having to trawl from site to site to try and find the best time/price combo.

The real revolution will happen when RSS/webfeeds are offered in categories. For example, Stephen is subscribing to Newcastle airport. However the people who will really profit off RSS will come up with innovative subscriptions like flights under a certain price, deals for specific periods or last minute offers.

As it stands the Internet is known as the worldwide web. Unfortunately with some much information available it’s easy to get tangled in that web, but with the advent of RSS/webfeeds you can turn the tables and catch the information you want in a web of your own…your RSS reader.

I’m not sure that’s really going to be a great use of RSS. When I want to book a flight I’ll book it - but I don’t want a daily stream of special offers. I do however want to be able to find the best deal in the shortest amount of time - something I don’t see RSS as being able to help out with.

Interested to hear your view of this? Would you really subscribe to feeds for flights to London?

Yeah, but the whole beauty of RSS/Webfeeds is that you can subscribe and unsubscribe.

Seriously, who else’s head is wrecked when you hear about the latest Ryanair or Aer Lingus sale and you have to trawl through flights to try and find cheap seats? If there were RSS parameters then you could have tailored information coming to you.

I might not subscribe to feeds for flights to London, but I would subscribe to flights to London under €10, espeicially with my brother moving over there.

I think the flight case is a really good example for this. Lots of people are always looking to get away for a cheap weekend break. Rather than checking websites every week or two, let RSS/Webfeeds do the work for you.
