JNLR survey reflects on Irish New Media habits
Published August 29th, 2005 in PR in IrelandThere are three kinds of lies: lies, damn lies and statistics - Mark Twain
I’m just after reading in the Sunday Business Post that as part of the latest JNLR survey, TNS MRBI researched New Media habits in Ireland.
Here are the survey results:
14% of Irish adults have an mp3 player
45% of Irish adults have internet access at home
25% of those with Internet access are broadband enabled
One in seven lives in a mobile-phone-only household
The results are interesting for a number of reasons. Honestly, I thought more people would have had an mp3 player. I think 14% is too low, since most mobile phones can play mp3s these days. I think that we don’t automatically think of them as mp3 players though.
The broadband rate reflects the fact that take-up is still quite low in Ireland. It will be interesting to see the results of the Ireland Offline survey when they are returned.
As part of the survey they also asked where people listened to radio. 16% of the respondents said they listened in their car, 9% said at work and 58% said at home. In future I hope the researchers ask whether they listen to radio on their computer.
If we could get those figures and information from radio stations about listenership figures for their online offerings, then it would be interesting to see what the potential is like for Irish radio stations podcasting.
