Banksy & Thundercut - masters of publicity
Published September 14th, 2005 in BuzzFame lost its appeal for me when I went into a public restroom and an autograph seeker handed me a pen and paper under the stall door - Marlo Thomas
Meet Banksy and Thundercut - the mash-up artists of the art world. These guys remix the world around them, throwing up interesting street sign modifications or putting their own work into art galleries.
PR practitioners take note, we could learn a lot from these guys. One of the big publicity stories last year in Ireland was when pigs’ heads started to appear around Waterford City. God bless my Jesuit education, because I guessed that it was to promote something to do with the Lord of the Flies. Low and behold, the pigs’ heads were put up to promote an upcoming stage adaptation of the novel. Controversy ensues and the show sells out.
Now off to remix some street signs or boring old painting! What a way to build up some buzz.
