Technorati/Edelman survey
Published September 25th, 2005 in E-PRBig words seldom accompany good deeds - Charlotte Whitton
You’ve got to love surveys, especially asurveys about blogging - God knows how many people can complete, but I’m sure they tell us something rather insightful. Technorati and Edelman have teamed up to conduct the latest survey. The survey’s aim to help shape the future of corporate communications. Have a look at the survey and it’ll be quite obvious what the results will turn out like.
I did find the structure somewhat odd though, its layout is as though every blogger in the world is inundated with pitches from PR practitioners. I’ve received one email the entire time I’ve penned this website and haven’t heard a peep since, so I’m feeling a bit left out now
Maybe I should start a blog on gold and see if I get any freebies!
I really don’t understand the need for the survey, if people use a bit of common sense and just don’t send a cut and paste press release to a thousand bloggers then the PR industry might not have such a bad name when it comes to the blogosphere. Like I said on my answers to the survey, if somebody wants to communicate with me or my audience then send me a personalised email which shows you’re familiar with my website and to make sure what they’re pitching me on is relevant to me or my audience. It’s not that hard now is it? I don’t send tech press releases to medical journlalists unless its relevant so why would I do something similar to bloggers?

It’s very badly thought out and won’t really give anybody any useful information.
I’ve been contacted by a number of people via my blog, but that isn’t the issue. A lot of the questions they asked did not address the options that I would have chosen. They also did nothing to quantify a blogger’s position ie. how long they had been blogging, as this would have a very big impact on the type of contacts they would have.
