There’s no business like show business, but there’s several businesses like accounting - David Letterman

One sure fire way to make it into the Irish Press is to make a jobs, investment figures or survey results announcement. Surveys get people into the press across the globe, but announcements about jobs and investment take on special meaning in Ireland. While we are just after passing the peak of the Celtic Tiger, a golden era for the Irish economy, it wasn’t so long ago when things weren’t quite as rosy. One only has to go back to the 1980’s to see that the Irish public are quite well off in comparison so the ancedotal throwaway comments about the good old days really applies to the 90’s and the start of the new millenium.

Despite our economic success the hard times have been engrained in the the Irish psyche and as such you can often see stories on the Nine O’Clock News about a jobs announcement. This is hardly stuff that would get such high profile in other parts of the world. So despite the fact that job announcements don’t seem like major news at times, organisations should take a proactive approach in releasing such information, espeicially emerging companies as it gives people a better sense of security about them.
