Advice is one of those things it is far more blessed to give than to receive - Carolyn Wells

I seem to be talking a lot about blogging and other Internet tools lately, but with the Empathy Marketing Morning Conference fresh in my mind there are a lot of regular news stories that make me think that irish companies are not making their voices heard online.

Take a report from the University of Hertfordshire that revealed the ten magic words to use on job applications. In terms of online expenditure, it’s a fact that the recruitment industry are in the top three for online spend. So why aren’t online recruitment companies giving this type of advice to job seekers?

Recruitment experts are regular guests on radio shows and give practical advice. If they’re happy to spend money on PR consultancies to get them exposure, I really don’t understand why they aren’t engaging us to provide them with another channel to communicate with their target audiences.

I’d go one further than blogging though. Here’s an idea for nothing - offer interview advice podcasts. Speaking from experience I know one of the most nervous times during the whole interview process is the journey to the interview and the wait in the lobby. Now imagine if you had somebody giving you advice and calming you down on your iPod beforehand?

Online recruiters, please see my email details on my homepage :D
