SMS campaigns - Don’t see a good text message wasted
Published October 15th, 2005 in PR in IrelandIt’s so simple to be wise. Just think of something stupid to say and say the opposite - Sam Levenson
I’m happily sitting down in front of my laptop, actually not going out drinking in the first Friday night in God knows how long and guess what happens - I get an unsolicited text message from Diageo as part of their ‘Don’t see a great night wasted campaign.’
We have an alcohol problem in Ireland but only education, not an SMS campaign will solve it. Now I’ve heard lots of stuff about SMS campaigns, but in this instance it just annoys me because it spam in my inbox. I could have been chatting with a friend, broken off a conversation, only to delete the message thus reinforcing the negative feeling towards the text message.
What further irks me is that I know why I received the message. I entered a drinks promotion on a night out and now I have to suffer through these messages which are undoubtedly pick up during the Christmas period.
Well Diageo this is one person saying save yourself the cash and don’t see a good text message wasted, send it on to someone that cares (preferably not spamming them in the process!)

Presumably you can unsubscribe and don’t have to receive them again?
Nope there doesn’t seem to be the option. It came from some weird number like 51500.
Oh you can unsub no problem. In fact if they don’t have unsub details then they are not following the rules. http://www.regtel.ie/ will be able to help you there.
