TechCamp: Feedback, reflections & a heart attack!
Published October 16th, 2005 in PersonalReality is the leading cause of stress amongst those in touch with it - Lily Tomlin
There’s a feedback section on the TechCamp wiki now entitled ‘TechCamp Afters‘. Bernie Goldbach has started the ball rolling already.
I thought the day went well, in fact if there was a problem it was that people got too caught up in conversation! Some presentations went over their time limit, but almost everyone who wanted to present got to.
Next time around I’d cut down on the discussion times and allow more time for people to mingle. So 45 minute sessions by 45 minute informal gatherings. I’d also let the day run from 9.30 to 4.30 rather than 8.30 to 5.30. Maybe it was because Ed and myself spent the day before preparing, but I was fairly tired by the end of TechCamp. So apologies for not maiking it into the porterhouse afterwards.
I’m really proud of how the day turned out. I’ve run corporate hospitality for over a hundred people before with somebody else’s money, but Ed and myself spread the word, organised sponsorship, got coverage and ensured everything ran smoothly. Phew! Plenty of ideas and a bit of food isn’t bad for free. In fact I’m surprised nobody turned up just for lunch for some free grub!
Unfortunately I missed the Web Marketing and Blogging discussion and Tom Raftery’s presentation, but I got to encounter some rather interesting people like Brian O’Neill who recounted the glory days of the dotcom era and Bernie Goldbach who seriously knows his stuff.
The most interesting thing to come out of the day was the Digital Rights Ireland presentation, this is something that I could see myself getting involved in.
And finally Damien Mulley was right about the heart attack when TechCamp sucked popped up on my screen

Muhahaha.
Good idea about the interstitials.
I’d ask next time that in exchange for the free lunch that everyone that attends blogs about Tech Camp.
Perhaps set up an opt-in mailing list for those that attended Tech Camp too so people can keep in touch.
We’d probably be accussed of bribing bloggers then
