Will a lack of cultural integration affect Irish PR practitioners?

Richard Edelman has posted a good article called ‘The On-Going Challenge of Diversity‘ where he points out that PR consultancies’ “recruiting and promotion policies are not keeping up with an increasingly diverse world“. This is a problem that is being felt the world over and one that is most evident in Ireland.
We have a rising number of immigrants coming to the country and they are finally beginning to integrate themselves in our society. There are however some inherent problems which will cause fricition in the future, such as the requirement to know the Irish language for a number of civil and public services.
In my opinion I think that a lack of cultural integration could have an adverse affect on the quality of service provided by Irish PR practitioners. One of the golden rules of Public Relations is ‘know your media.’ Well I think that’s going to be a bit hard if you don’t know your audience.
Thankfully there are a number of companies getting involved with immigrant communities. I think Irish PR practitioners will have to build upon existing ties between companies and start a progress of microtargeting cultural publications in order to provide a better service to their clients.

The mainstream Civil Service grades have not required knowledge of the Irish language as part of the entry requirements for some considerable years.
Doh! I was going to say the Gardai, but thought that they were going to change some of the restrictions for that. Didn’t know civil servants didn’t have cupla focal Gaeilge anymore.
