Everybody’s talking at me. I don’t hear a word they’re saying. Only the echoes of my mind - Harry Nilsson

Upon first reading of my headline, most people will think that the time for companies to get consumers talking about their products online started a long time ago. However a new survey (as reported on Cnet) shows that consumers are tilting towards tech buys. Importantly, an analyst points out that ‘the entire industry is delivering high-quality products.’, therefore in order for companies to distinguish their product they need consumers to create more noise about it than their competitors’ offerings.

It’s fine if you’re an Apple addict like myself who will happily buy the latest iPod or Powerbook, but if you’re someone who has no particular affinity for any of the consumer brands out there, then what other people say is going to be a big influence on you.

When it comes to products like mobile phones or mp3 players, more people are turning to Google to find reviews or using bulletin boards to get feedback from other consumers. If you’re not encouraging your customers to do this, then you running the risk of consumers not finding your products online.

Companies are always concerned about whether their product is on store shelves and where it is positioned. I think they should show the same level of concern about their visibility online. It’s a fact that online PR and engaging with consumers is the only way to achieve this.

So I’d hearby like to encourage you to write a post about how good a service I provide to you!

Is that soliciting a blogger? Or is it ok to ask for a post, if it’s only a review, and there was no incentive to do it?

Well in your case you’re luckier because there’s no-one else offering a similar service. Although Michele Neylon is getting in on your act now, Blacknight are stating to offer bolg packages for people.
