eBay meets RSS = eBay 2.0

Customers who don’t get support become someone else’s customers - Brigade ad

Thanks to Stephen Davies for pointing out that eBay is now allowing owners of eBay stores to have their own RSS feed. Normally I hate jumping on the bandwagon with these announcements, but this is a really great example of the benefits of RSS/Webfeeds.

One of the things I hated about eBay was spotting a bargain and then being pipped at the post by a last minute bid. I hated having to pay attention to my email account or checking the auction for activity, it was so inefficient. I hope eBay will let consumers sign up to individual auction feeds which would alert them to any bidding. Better yet, avid collectors could sign up to categories and never miss out on a must-have item because of a mispelling.

The beauty of tools like Adwords or RSS isn’t just that they add an extra channel to your communications mix, it’s that they can completely change the way you do business. Hmm…maybe eBay wasn’t so crazy splashing out all that cash on Skype after all. If they can come up with anything as innovative as what RSS offers them, then I’m all ears.

The link to my site won’t work. Apparently my host has been sabotaged by hackers. All the sites and blogs he hosts are gone.

Anyway, here’s the announcement from eBay:
