More proof of the Internet’s impact on accountability and transparency
Published December 20th, 2005 in E-PRHe who trims himself to suit everyone will soon whittle himself away - Raymond Hull
I say it time and time again, but the Internet is holding organisations and individuals to a higher degree of accountability and transparency. Here’s another couple of great examples.
Tuppenceworth.ie shows how Irish MEPs voted for the Data Retention Directive. The site also goes on to post Pronsias De Rossa’s statement in response to the fact that he was the only Irish MEP to vote in favour of the directive. The days of an elected representative saying one thing and doing another are slowly coming to an end.
The Sunday Times reported about Eddie Hobbs had to make changes to his website after they questioned him about advertisements on the site. Personally I don’t think that it is apparent that he is being paid for product endorsements on the site despite the changes.
Personally I think his web design company, Horizon Omni Media, may come out worse from this because is quite apparent that they are not giving him good advice about his blog. One of the first things anyone has to bear in mind before setting up a blog is that you have to remain transparent. Eddie is effectively getting paid to write about companies, hardly what I’d call independent advice.
