What I’m reading

I have finally gotten around to setting up a del.icio.us page. For those unfamiliar with del.icio.us, it is effectively a method of collecting your bookmarks/favourites in order to share with others. I set one up a couple of months ago, but never bothered using it, preferring to store articles in my RSS reader. A recent post by James Corbett about reading lists for clients though it got me thinking about it and I decided to set one up.
The aim of my page is to bookmark stories of interest to Public Relations practitioners. I already subscribe to Constantin Basturea’s del.icio.us feed, and those who do so also my notice some similarities. I’ve expanded upon his by adding campaigns that I think are innovative and could be replicated by other organisations.
The aim of the feed is to serve as an educational resource for me so I can look at campaigns for inspiration, as well as point out a couple of articles which might be of interest to clients. So for those who check it out, expect to find campaigns that are Consumer PR focused, as well as PR, Traditional Media, Consumer Generated Media and Social Media (blogs, podcasts et al) articles. Unfortunately I haven’t stored all of the stories that aught my attention over the past couple of months, but I’ll be more diligent in future.
James would prefer if I used an OPML based reading list so clients could learn what to pay attention to, but because people are generally unaware of RSS, let alone OPML. I feel much better having a website address where I can tell people that they can find some articles that were of interest to me.

When I first set up a del.icio.us account I promoted the feed on my blog, but after a while I realised that I could use it for research that’s only useful to me e.g. uni, work etc.
The more you play around with it, the more you’ll find it useful for other things too. As soon as I realised that, I took the link off my blog. I’ve still got three subscribers though and it annoys the hell out of me!
Thanks for supplying your attention data feed Piaras (even if it’s not in my preferred format
I’ve subscribed and already come across some very interesting reading.
