The Geared Up blog points us in the way of a Google Maps image of a large swear word written with straw bales in a field (Link is worksafe. Image can be found by following the link on the Geared Up site)
It’s the latest example of someone taking advantage of Google Maps. Target was the last company using Google’s tool as a means of advertising.
I don’t think that Google Maps is a long term advertising channel, but it’s a clever way to engage with a mainstream audience. You would be surprised by the amount of people using the tool.
I’ve talked before about companies watching trends that they can take advantage of in order to really resonate with their target audience. I didn’t stress the urgency though to be an early adopter. Like I said in the previous paragraph, Google Maps isn’t a long-term advertising channel, but companies like Target are grabbing attention now at the expense of their competitors.
The world is changing fast. Either you hit the ground running or risk falling either further behind.
