I found a press release via Press Release Ireland announcing the launch of Kick.ie, a community driven news website similar to Digg. With no central editing process, articles are submitted by readers and the articles are ranked by votes of approval (kicks).

One interesting aspect of it will be that users who submit stories that have an Adsense account will earn a share of revenue from stories posted.

I’m pretty sure that I had heard of Kick.ie prior to its launch, but I’m surprised that the people behind the project didn’t reach out to more people to submit stories to the site. Kick.ie has a blog which will be interesting to watch. I hope they explain to people how to get an Adsense account and how it works if they are to encourage people to use it.

All the same it will prove to be an interesting resource for Irish PR practitioners as it provides a useful tool for combining the latest mainstream breaking news and what important subjects people are discussing online.

Good to see more home grown activity in the Web 2.0 social search space. If you like the ‘kick.ie’ site you will definitely enjoy the recently launched Searchles site (www.searchles.com). Pronounced circles, Searchles is a 100% Irish funded venture from the startup team behind the Dumbfind search engine (www.dumbfind.com).
