Roundup

Here are a few bits and bobs that I’ve been meaning to post over the last couple of days:

  • Another Irish politician has started a blog. This time it’s Chris Andrews, a Fianna Fail candidate in Dublin South East. Comments are disabled on his site unfortunately.
  • Car Buyers Guide is the latest Irish website to incorporate Google Maps. Here’s an example (click Enquire by Phone and scroll down the pop-up that appears.) It should really be incorporated into the main details of any listing. While you’re there, you can check out Paddy Comyn’s review of the Opel Astra OPC which I had him test drive the other week.
  • Dublin’s soon-to-be-launched new radio station, Phantom FM, has been busily embracing podcasting. They have just announced a second feed for a new series called iSpot which will focus on a new and upcoming Irish band every week. It’s probably one of the best uses of podcasting thus far by an Irish media organisation.

I’m not sure if it’s a blog with comments disabled. I realise that, especially for a politicians site, comments should be moderated, but with no comments at all, it seems like an advertising site, or at best, a public information website.

Espeicially since he seems to be torn in two directions with it. It seems that he’s happy enough just reprinting press releases on it for the most part.

    Hi Piaras,

I helped Chris put the site together. Chris was initially excited by the potential for the blog commenting facility. However, my experience of persistent mischevious commenters on my site during the Local Elections in 2004 made him act a little more cautiously.

The problem is that, if he attracts anything like the number of commenters I recieved, he needs a modorater and that is significant undertaking.

It would be quite interesting to hear your views on blogging Michael. I’ll email you shortly because I would be interested to find out your troubles with your website during the Local Elections

    Hi Piaras,

Interested to read about Paddy Comyn doing road tests for you. Does he get paid for this?
