Using the Internet to increase the efficiency of the PR process
Published February 26th, 2006 in E-PRMichael Sommermeyer is the Court Information Officer for the Eighth Judicial District Court in Las Vegas, Nevada. Apart from maintaining his own personal website, Michael has also recently set up the Las Vegas Courts blog. It is an innovative website and illustrates how new media tools can help improve the PR process. The site is aimed at the media and provides them with updates and an overview of the court calendar. A very simple example of that is the reduction in phone calls he has had to take from journalists in the runup to their deadlines due to the information being available from a centralized source.
This example illustrates the increase in efficiency that can be brought about by employing the Internet as a centralized communications tool. More importantly for PR practitioners, it also highlights how they can be used to communicate directly with specific audiences such as journalists. Due to the minimal costs associated with blogs, they offer a great return on investment.
