There are thousands of charities across the globe all vying for money from a limited pot. Because it is such a competitive space, charities are having to go above and beyond with their efforts in order to raise awareness about their cause.

I read about a very interesting fundraiser in the Irish Times yesterday. Three charities are combining their efforts and running a rather special charity ball. Charity balls are nothing new, but this is very innovative.

The Irish Famine Commemoration Fund, the Irish Youth Foundation and To Russia With Love are holding a four day extravaganza entitled the St. Petersburg Ball. 180 guests are being flown to Russia on a chartered jet, staying in a five star hotel and will be treated to a series of exclusive events in the run up to the ball. Although the price tag of €2,500 is rather steep, when you look at what you’re getting I think it’s well worth the price.

Besides raising a lot of money, the event helps raise awareness of three charities which aren’t exactly household names in Ireland. Expect to see pictures from the event in all the social pages and hear plenty of reports. Its exclusive nature is sure to see it become a firm fixture on the Irish social circuit.
