A recent post on the Hosting365 blog perked my interest. Ed Byrne, their new marketing director, pointed out that they are the only Irish hosting company with their own data centre and lists the benefits of this. He also threw out an invite to all readers to come in and check out their facilities.

I know Ed, so I decided to see if he was serious on his offer or if it was idle marketing talk - maybe he just wants to meet lots of nerds? One car trip later and here I am pictured below checking out Hosting365’s amazing setup.

I’ve just switched to Hosting365 for hosting this website as part of their free blog hosting offer so I even touched the physical representation of my blog, a web server. It’s quite nerdy of me, but how many bloggers can say they did that?

When I asked Ed what the point of getting bloggers to visit Hosting365’s facilities was, he said it was the fact that not many people seemed to know that they were the only hosting company with their own data centre. What better way to spread the word than targeting bloggers, individuals typically with a bit more knowledge about IT.

It’s an excellent idea by Hosting365 and I hope other bloggers take them up on their offer. I didn’t know that they were the only hosting company with their own data centre, so their blog highlights how they can differentiate themselves from their competition.

I got so caught up in all the technology on view (slick Plasma screen in the boardroom, wouldn’t fit under my jacket though :(), that I forgot to take Ed up on the other offer on his blog…free cake!
