How to find local photographers
Published April 11th, 2006 in PR in IrelandI’ve been booking a few regional photographers recently and thought I’d post a helpful tip on how to find one easily.
The majority of Ireland’s PR photographers are based in Dublin so when you’re running a local event somewhere like Waterford, it’s awkward enough trying to find someone that is reliable and know to the local press.
The answer is quite easy. Simply call the local paper and ask for a recommendation. Regional media are surprisingly helpful in this respect.

That was one of the first tips my first boss ever taught me. Another way to do it is ask a local PR firm. We’ve had calls from London agencies, and even PRs in the USA, and have been happy to suggest someone.
We had similar experience of doing the same. We had a contract in a small town in north Donegal. Didn’t know where to start looking for general workers. We rang the local post office and they were more than helpful and we got a few guys from the area to work on the project for a couple of weeks.

Provision in Cork (www.provision.ie) are very good. The Irish Times use them. Speaking from the point-of-view of someone who had to face the camera and look ‘business-like’ for the Business supplement, they were very pleasant to deal with.
You can also ask your local Mac Service Shop. I could give half a dozen recommendations for all sorts. All up in the North of course.
