Landmark move for citizen journalism
Published May 1st, 2006 in E-PRNokia has signed a deal with Flickr, a photo sharing website, so that people can immediately upload their photos to the web. This is a landmark move for citizen journalism because it marks a move from having to have the “know how” to put your images onto the Internet to making it easy for non-techies to do.
We’ve already started to see the increasing use of images from cameraphones in mainstream media coverage. This announcement coincides with that increasing trend and will multiply the effect due to Flickr’s sharing capabilities.
Word-of-mouth is key to a lot of stories emerging from the Internet. The easier you make it for people to spread the word, the wider the audience you can expose a story to.
What makes this more of a big deal, Nokia also announced that they have sold 5 million mobile phones from their N Series.
Is this the next landmark? - ComVu claims that PocketCaster enables video broadcasts from mobile phones.
