Steve Wilson, a senior director of Global Web Communications at McDonalds, posted about a series of video vignettes that McDonalds are running on his personal website. The vignettes are running under the themes of community, opportunity and food quality.

Food quality is the big one for me. Personally, I wouldn’t put the phrase ‘food quality’ together with McDonalds, but then again I don’t know what goes into the food or how it is prepared, so my feelings on the subject are drawn from idle speculation to be honest.

If McDonalds run a similar initiative here in Ireland and show us where the meat they use in the burgers is coming for and a behind the scenes look at how the food is actually prepared, I think they would go some way to changing the public’s perception about the company.

It would certainly go a long way more than some of their current initiatives. For example, their current advertising strategy revolves around the fact that every Happy Meal comes with a banana. Personally speaking, I think it’s a bit like a drug dealer saying that when he sells heroin, he gives his customers a clean syringe - <sarcasm>how noble!</sarcasm>

Food preparation and quality is a big issue for restaurants and other food outlets. If you could show potential customers how clean your premises are and what goes into your dishes, you would go a long way to establishing a positive relationship with your customers and overcoming speedbumps like the Avian Flu and Mad Cow’s Disease hysteria.
