Welcome to Dumpsville. Population = You
Published August 31st, 2006 in E-PRTechnology has enabled us to communicate with each other in ways that would have been completely unimaginable a couple of years ago. There’s quite a learning curve that goes hand in hand with this. Over the past few months we’ve seen people fired from their jobs because of their blogs or MySpace page. Now it’s evolved to the point where we’re being judged by the content of our family’s members online content.
Don’t get too worried about the HR problems we’re facing over the next few years though as some people are still making the same mistakes. Take RadioShack’s decision to sack 400 employees by email.
I’m trying to figure out which is worse, being sent an email saying “Welcome to Dumpsville. Population = You” or receiving the one that RadioShack actually sent below:
“The work force reduction notification is currently in progress. Unfortunately your position is one that has been eliminated.”
