One man’s loss is another man’s gain
Published October 5th, 2006 in PR in IrelandYou have to admire the opportunists out there who garner publicity off the back of another story. Case in point, Lycos who revealed last week that “the search term ‘Elin Nordegren’ showed the biggest increase for the week ending 23 September.” Silicon Republic reports:
Elin Nordegren is Tiger Woods’ wife, and was the focus of much attention last week when The Dubliner magazine marked the occasion of Ireland hosting the Ryder Cup by publishing what it claimed was a nude photograph of her
It was a funny story really because the original article was a satirical piece, but garnered far more column inches than the tiny piece it started off as in the magazine. Does the phrase ‘Much ado about nothing’ ring any bells?
Very clever tactic by Lycos to get themselves some coverage, especially because Google should really be in that space. Paying attention to topical stories is always a great way to get your message out there because it captures journalists’ attention. Very innovative in this case because it’s relevant Irish content.
