I recently read about what My Chemical Romance’s Irish fans got up to to celebrate the band’s new album launch. The fans organised to meetup on Grafton Street, Ireland’s shopping capitol, through the band’s Street Team MySpace page.

As you can see from Hot Press’s photos on this page, they mustered up quite a crowd. The magazine article goes onto quote Warner Music’s John McCallion who said that they helped fans out with banners and placards.

This is why there’s so much hype about social networking sites like MySpace. However, this illustrates the way companies should engage with consumers. Instead of creating pointless fake profiles, what better way to create publicity than feeding it? By supporting the fans on Grafton Street, Warner Music helped create an experience.

Jesus, why didn’t someone tell me about this, I could have solve so many of music’s problems had I been there with the right equipment on that day.

well, considering they played the rds dublin earlier this year, its only fair that on their return they would play northern ireland. and no it wont start off again. th reason it was held was to celebrate the release of my chems new album, “the black parade”.
