It’s been a long time coming

Vodafone have announced that they partnered with MySpace (via RTE):

The partnership means Vodafone customers can edit their MySpace profiles, post photos and blogs and get MySpace messages via their handsets. The MySpace Mobile service will be pre-loaded on to selected Vodafone handsets and available to download from the Vodafone live! site.

Slowly but surely the mobile operators will realise that teens are starting to replace SMS by sending messages to their friends via Bebo and MySpace. More importantly, social networks are key to encouraging the existing subscription base to help repay their 3G investment. Want proof? Helio has announced that it is on track to rack up 100,000 subscribers and that their customers are spending $100 on average per month. Whoever links up with Bebo in Ireland stands to have similar success. Rumour has it that o2 is top of the queue.

EDIT/ Another sign Vodafone is on the right path - They have announced a linkup with YouTube today which will allow their customers to upload videos onto the site and view some of the content.

EDIT/ Good news comes in threes when it comes to Vodafone - They have now also signed a deal which will see their customers able to use Google Maps on their phones with ease.

No word on when Irish users will be able to avail of the MySpace and Youtube services.
