Do/Read/Watch/Listen - January
Published January 2nd, 2008 in PersonalDo - Go to see Henry Rollins at Vicar Street this month. His previous visit was the best comedy gig I went to in 2007. I was at a lot of comedy shows last year, seeing some comedians on more than one occasion, and it really annoyed me when people repeated the same material. Obviously comedians aren’t going to have a new act for every day of the year, but some comics are appalling. Rich Hall came out with the exact same jokes as the year before but in a different order! As a result, I’m extremely hesitant to see anyone I’ve saw last year for a while. Rollins thought shoots from the hip and is as thought provoking as he is hilarious. I’ll be popping over to London to see Chris Rock this month also for his first tour this side of the Atlantic.
Read - I read John Grant’s ‘New Marketing Manifesto‘ over Christmas. Another brilliant read for anyone in the PR/advertising/marketing business. Anyone that does any sort of consumer PR work should buy this and his other book, the ‘Brand Innovation Manifesto‘, then perhaps we’ll see more ideas that engage consumers rather than recommending launching a blog or creating a Facebook page.
Watch - I managed to get through a lot of books and DVDs that had been stacking up on my shelves over Christmas. The one DVD that was top of my list and which I’ve been waiting patiently for a while now was The Wire - Season 5. Not just your average cop drama, this is the most intelligent show on TV.
Here’s a teaser for Season 5.

Listen - I don’t know how I’m only getting around to listening to The Gossip now. No words needed, just listen:

I think it’s s little unfair to describe Rollins as a “comedian” see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Henry_rollins
Yeah was going to say spoken word artist, but can’t stand that term
