Stuff That Caught My Attention #4

Congrats to Stephen Davies, who has just set up his own online communications consultancy - 3WPR.

Tom Murphy is the voice of reason in the PR industry. His latest commentary gives a tongue lashing to the emperor’s new clothes syndrome which is clearly evident in the PR (and wider marketing/advertising/social media) blogosphere.

Very impressed with Dell’s Digital Nomads campaign. Very clever way to engage with the online community in a relevant way to the company, giving clear reasons for bloggers to contribute to the campaign. The campaign is described as:

Digital Nomads is a community site for individuals that work or play without regard for their physical location. It is a place where they can come together to read about other digital nomads, share ideas, tips and tricks, and best practices, and read the latest nomad-oriented news. Digital Nomads live a lifestyle where their laptop and other electronic devices create the center of their office and/or play-space. Digital Nomads is Powered By Dell.

Just so happen Dell sells the products that power this lifestyle :D
Really clever viral video by EA to promote their new Tiger Woods 2009 video game. The company created a video in response to a glitch where Tiger Woods could take a shot in the water in the game, so they posted a clip where they showed it’s not actually a glitch (watch the video to find out why.) On a more serious note, it’s also a great example of a company taking the time to understand how to garner as large an audience as possible for the video, in this instance it was posted in response to a popular clip.

Finally you have to admire Castleblaney, County Monaghan in Ireland which entered the Guinness Book of Records for the most Smurfs in the one place, coinciding with the 50th anniversary of the Smurfs and giving the town a publicity boost.
