Silicon Republic reports on for Comreg’s Digital Dividend Conference, where “Ireland’s state broadcaster RTÉ is planning to release its own catch-up TV media player product similar to the BBC iPlayer by the first quarter of 2009″ according to RTÉ’s director general Cathal Goan.

TV3 announced that it is to cut 15 jobs as part if a cost cutting exercise as advertising slows in the wake of the credit crunch. The Irish Times has more on the story.

PFSK points out the alarming news about a “fake story on CNN’s citizen journalism website claiming that Steve Jobs had suffered a massive heart attack and was being rushed to the hospital. As expected, mild panic ensued, bloggers and journos scrambled to get to the bottom of the story, and Apple’s stock took a quick dive before bouncing back.” The story has inevitably brought the debate about the quality of citizen journalism back to the limelight. Reporting on the story, Wired quotes Scott Vernick, a partner at law firm Fox Rothschild. He claims that the incident has the hallmarks of a short seller, and it’s likely that he (or she) could face criminal charges and possibly prison time.
